I received this email today:
"I am looking for a new home for Taz. He is my brothers dog, who can no longer keep him. Taz is around 3 years old, and he is a border collie/sheltie cross. He looks like a miniature border collie. Taz was rescued by a breeder who found him on a farm as young puppy. His mom died soon after he was found, and only him and one of his sister's survived in the cold, the other pups in the litter were frozen to death. The only side effect Taz received from the cold was that one of his front legs were frozen, and as a result it hasn't grown as big and strong as the other three, but he can still use it, and has no problem getting around. He is sheltie size, but looks like a BC.
He has been socialized with kids, as he grew up with my brothers 3 kids. He is extremely affectionate , which can be a bit overwhelming at times, and i know he would benefit a lot from some basic obeidience training.
He is also socialized well with other dogs, and plays all day here with my miniature schnauzer, Surge. He is a bit over weight, but he has lost some since coming into my care. He is a couch potatoe in the house, but once you bring him outside or ask him to start playing he has a lot of energy typical of his breeds. Again, some obeidience training including recall would benefit him, and he is a smart dog and i know it wouldnt take him long to catch on.
I have contacted the local BC rescue but as of now they are full. I really don't want to bring him to the shelter, he is a very sensitive dog and i know he wont do well there at all. The only real 'issue' Taz has, is that he tends to hold his pee until you can bring him out yourself. He doesnt always do it if put out on a leash (which ive had to do here) , so he needs to be taken out at night before bed and he will do his business then he is fine, and fine all day in regards to messing in the house. I think crate training (as well as a fenced yard) would be a huge help especially at night times, as well as rewarding him possibly with a treat when he relieves himself to help the process go quickly.
Being that i am in an apartment, im very limited for space and now time as well for Taz, and I am unable to keep him much longer. I am looking for a good home for him, or even a foster home until he can find a new home, and i will pay for his bills (food, etc). There is a slight possibility that my brothers family may be able to take him back early in the new year if we dont find him a permanent home, but at this point thats not a solid deal, so i am pursuing a new home for him.
Any more questions or if you are interested in Taz, he is extremely affectionate, loves everyone, and just wants to be at your side......you can contact me via Email writetoblake@Hotmail.com
